Susan Shaffer is a clinical psychologist and one of the few American Board Certified sex therapist in Minnesota. She received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1978. She received her doctorate at the University of Denver School of Professional Psychology in 1986; having completed her internship in community and clinical psychology at Rutgers Medical School, Department of Psychiatry. She is also certified as a professional trauma specialist. Dr. Shaffer’s academic training focused on long term psychoanalytic therapy, family systems therapy and diagnostic evaluation.

She found her niche in combining the three to specialize in insecure attachment in adulthood, disorders of intimacy, relationship distress, sexual discomfort, sexual dysfunctions and post traumatic symtpom disorders. Additional areas of expertise are inĀ  the treatment of compulsive sex, trauma recovery and in the prevention of post-traumatic stress disorder. She especially enjoys speaking to all ages and community groups about gaining sexual self-esteem, sexual integrity and the art and “science” of safe dating and mate selection.
